Webspring™ web database technology
is the power behind the e-commerce, call
centre and order tracking systems at the
heart of Web Fulfilment Ltd's (WFL) business.
The System
The heart of the WFL logistics system is located at
their main warehouse in Surrey, England. This PC based
logistics system handles the day-to-day fulfilment
tasks. It takes orders on behalf of WFL's clients from
client based e-commerce sites and from International
Call Centres via the Internet.
E-Commerce Fulfilment
The WFL client e-commerce websites use Ambrit's Instant-Shop
technology. This is embedded in the websites providing
a professional 'Shopping Cart' capability. A secure
Instant-Shop server located in the Ambrit hosting facility
in Hertfordshire, England, takes the orders. The orders
are downloaded into the WFL logistics system via the
Internet using Webspring™
communication technology. This allows
Internet browsing customers to buy products
through the WFL clients' websites. The
orders are automatically processed and
fulfiled by WFL.
Call Centre Fulfilment
The international Call Centres take orders via the
telephone system in response to T.V. and other media
advertising campaigns. The Call Centres run local intranet
servers using a version of Instant-Shop that has been
adapted for the Call Centre environment. Call Centre
operators get up-to-date product information using
web browsers. The operators enter orders directly into
their Instant-Shop servers. These orders are directed
to the WFL warehousing system via a Webspring based
Internet communications system. This allows customers
to buy WFL clients' products over the telephone and
have them fulfilled automatically by WFL.
Order Tracking
In both cases the Instant-Shop e-commerce sites are
maintained by WFL through the Internet using Instant-Shop
Client software. This ensures that both the Call Centre
operators and browsing public are looking at current
product information and prices.
The main Order Tracking server is located at Ambrit's
facility. Secondary Order Tracking servers are deployed
at the Call Centres throughout the world. They handle
local Order Tracking information for Call Centre operations
allowing the operators to track customer orders. Customer
account details can be maintained locally and filtered
back to the main server automatically. This allows
a world-wide Call Centre infrastructure to be created
quickly.
The WFL Logistics computer updates a local Webspring™ server
regularly as a batch process. This information is distributed
intelligently to the remote Order Tracking servers
using Webspring's™ Sync. component which enables
multi-server updates.
This system operates seamlessly 24hrs a day, seven
days a week, using the Internet to ensure that all
servers are up to date. All the system components are
managed and supported from the Ambrit facility in Northchurch,
England through the Internet.
