Glossary of Terms
SITE
A site is an installation or platform based at a geographic location.
A site comprises of one or more STATIONS.
STATION
A metering STATION at a SITE comprising of but not limited to a: Measurement
Skid, containing LOCATIONs where instrumentation and actuators are
installed, one or more Quality Instrumentation Loops, Tank farms
etc.
Each Station will also have a STORES, OFFSITE, OBSOLETE and a TEST EQUIPMENT
facility.
LOCATION
A part of a STATION.
e.g. Individual streams, Provers, Quality Loops etc.
PROCESS ELEMENT
A PROCESS ELEMENT defines a specific part of the process, several of which
could be encompassed within a LOCATION. The PROCESS ELEMENT could be a
measurement process such as Temperature, Pressure or Flow or it could
be a control process such as a control valve or block valve.
TAG
The physical location of a piece of EQUIPMENT, or composite piece of EQUIPMENT
made up of discreet pieces of EQUIPMENT, represented by a TAG NUMBER that
is generally represented on the STATION (or SYSTEM) Process and Instrumentation
Diagram (P&ID).
e.g. Temperature Indicator 21-TI-1001; or an Orifice Meter 21-FX-1001
made up from a carrier, several orifice plates and a number of DP cells
that may have be placed within the LOCATION on a STATION at a specific
related TAG NUMBER egg DP Cells 21- PK-1001A, 21-PK-1001B, 21-PK-1001C
in the case on a three DP cell stack on 21-FX-1001.
EQUIPMENT
An item of control or measurement instrumentation, which can be identified
by a discreet serial number. It may be located in service at a TAG or
in STORES or OFF SITE. It may also be OBSOLETE. The EQUIPMENT can have,
but will not necessarily be limited to a: Name, Manufacturer, and Model
Number in support of its identification. It must have a serial number.
e.g. 21-DP-1001A (TAG); a Differential Pressure Transmitter (Name); manufactured
by Fisher-Rosemount (Manufacture); 3051S (Model Number); 0034567 (Serial
Number).
STORES
A location considered as a virtual store, featuring EQUIPMENT that is
not in service at a TAG on a STATION within a SITE, but is available for
use at the site as a spare or replacement for EQUIPMENT already in service
at specific TAGS.
TEST EQUIPMENT
A virtual collection of TEST EQUIPMENT used on the SITE. TEST EQUIPMENT
is treated in the same way as other EQUIPMENT is so far as it can have
log book entries and it too can be calibrated. TEST EQUIPMENT can be used
to calibrate other pieces of EQUIPMENT.
e.g. Deadweight Tester
OFF SITE
A virtual location that stores EQUIPMENT that is not in service at a TAG
or in STORES on a STATION within a SITE.
e.g. EQUIPMENT that is back at the manufacturer for repair or external
calibration.
OBSOLETE
A virtual location that stores EQUIPMENT that is no longer available for
service at a TAG or in STORES or OFFSITE on a STATION within a SITE.
e.g. EQUIPMENT that is in effect scrap. Logbook entries and calibration
histories are still maintained for audit purposes of equipment that is
not being used.
